Ukrainian intelligence agents successfully completed a complex operation to evacuate Ukrainians from the 'Roj' camp in Syria. Over five years, they managed to evacuate 14 women and 41 children. The head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense, Kyrylo Budanov, shared details of this operation on the 'Apostrof TV' program.

“Many negotiations, numerous situations of various kinds, let's say, some quite dangerous for life. In principle, the region, when we started to deal with this, was not the best, not the most peaceful in the world,” Budanov noted.

According to Budanov, camps in Syria are dangerous places, surrounded by barbed wire and guard towers. Meanwhile, two Ukrainian citizens remain in an Iraqi prison with sentences, yet intelligence agents have already managed to evacuate others from this horrific environment.

The operation lasted for more than a year. How did the GUR achieve the impossible?

On the other hand, U.S. President Donald Trump lifted some sanctions against Syria, imposed back in 2004. This decisive step aims to support the path to peace and stabilize the situation in the country, despite the ongoing restrictions on the Assad regime and human rights violations that remain in effect.

According to reports, after the Syrian opposition conducted an offensive in 2024, leading to the fall of Damascus and Assad's flight to Russia, Trump met with the Syrian leader, expressing hope for improved relations with this country and other Arab states.
