Ukrainian athletes will continue to participate in international competitions where representatives of Russia and Belarus will be present with their national symbols, stated the Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine, Matviy Bidny. This became known after changes were made to the decree from July 2023, which prohibited Ukrainian athletes from competing alongside Russians and Belarusians. A special commission is now being formed to consider the participation of Ukrainian athletes in various competitions, taking into account the IOC's recommendations regarding neutral athletes.
This decision was made so that Ukrainian athletes can continue to participate in the most prestigious sporting events in the world, where Russians are also present. The ban on competing with Russians remains, but now Ukrainian athletes can receive permission through the decisions of the special commission.
