New Release from the Band Cape Cod

The Ukrainian band Cape Cod, founded by Maksym Sikalenko, has teamed up with JAMALA to release a fresh track titled 'Summer.' Work on the song stretched across nearly two years, as Sikalenko joined Ukraine’s Defense Forces in 2024. Production resumed in 2026 while the musician was on leave. 'Summer' marks the first single from Cape Cod’s upcoming fourth studio album.

JAMALA’s Comments and Creative Insights

On the new composition, JAMALA shared:

“When Max sent me the demo draft and instrumental, a whole story immediately came to mind: summer, relationships, lightness. Everything clicked into a special puzzle, and this song was born from it.”
She also expressed her excitement about the collaboration:
“I truly love creating, performing, and playing alongside my friend. So it’s great that we have this song—'Summer.' I’m happy to have this continuation, especially with an electronic sound that really resonates with me.”

A standout feature of the release is the mood video, which was shot entirely on film stock—a rare choice that adds a distinctive touch. The footage was developed by hand, with the following contributors:

  • Producer Daryna Deriahina,
  • Cinematographer Anton Lukashenko,
  • The team at 14'8'.

Sikalenko also offered a glimpse into the upcoming album: “I don’t want to go into detail yet about what the fourth Cape Cod album will be like or who else will be involved. But I can say for sure that it will be unexpected in the context of our previous work.”

The track 'Summer' blends elements of dance-punk, adult pop, and Italo disco, signaling a shift in the band’s musical direction. This release opens a new chapter for Cape Cod, promising fresh sounds on the horizon.

Beyond showcasing Cape Cod’s artistic growth, the drop of 'Summer' highlights the power of collaboration within Ukraine’s music scene. Amid ongoing national challenges, projects like this can play a key role in revitalizing cultural life and boosting morale. The forthcoming album, with its promised surprises, is poised to introduce new ideas and textures that could captivate listeners both in Ukraine and abroad.

As Cape Cod embarks on this exciting new chapter with 'Summer,' it's worth noting that other artists are also making their return to the music scene after breaks. For instance, Max Barsky recently released his single 'Kollye' after a year-long hiatus, showcasing a similar trend of artistic resurgence and evolution among musicians in the industry.
