In Kyiv, the proposed fare of 30 UAH for a trip on public transport has been called a "compromised and realistic price." The Kyiv City State Administration (KCSA) claims that the current fare no longer covers the city's expenses for passenger transportation. The head of the Department of Transport Infrastructure of KCSA, Serhiy Pidhainy, stated this in a comment to Suspilne.
KCSA announced an increase in transportation costs in Kyiv
According to the official, the economically justified fare in the capital is currently even higher than the proposed 30 UAH.
«As of today, the economically justified fare for travel is significantly higher. Why 30 UAH? This figure is taken into account and is close to the economic calculation,» Pidhainy said.
KCSA explains that the new calculations are based on the costs of transportation enterprises for the year 2025, taking into account depreciation, expenses for electricity, fuel, and employee salaries.
Transfer tickets and benefits will remain
The city administration reminded that the fare for travel in Kyiv has not been reviewed since 2018.
According to Pidhainy, additional pressure on the budget has been created by the rising costs of fuel and lubricants, electricity, and the need to finance the preparation of the capital for winter.
At the same time, KCSA assures that for privileged categories, travel will remain free of charge.
The following conditions are also provided:
- students will pay 50% of the fare;
- schoolchildren will travel for free during the school year;
- in the summer period, students will receive a 75% discount.
Separately, the capital wants to introduce a transfer ticket for 60 UAH, which will allow unlimited transfers between the metro and surface transport within 90 minutes.
The issue of raising fares for public transport in Kyiv is actively being discussed following KCSA's statements about new prices, which could come into effect as early as July 2026.
For residents of the capital, this will mean a significant increase in expenses for daily trips, especially for those who regularly use several types of transport.
It is worth noting that Kyiv plans to update the fare for public transport starting from July 15, 2026. The cost of a single trip in the metro, trams, trolleybuses, and buses will be 30 UAH.
