Czech Republic Rules Out Transfer of L-159 ALCA Jets to Ukraine
The Czech Republic's ruling coalition has decided against supporting the transfer of Aero L-159 ALCA combat aircraft to Ukraine, effectively blocking their sale. Defense Minister Jaromír Zuna emphasized that these jets remain critically important for the Czech Armed Forces. The decision to withhold the aircraft was made by representatives from the ANO, SPD, and AUTO parties.
Czech Government's Stance
Prime Minister Andrej Babiš also backed this position, noting that the aircraft could remain operational for approximately 15 more years and are still needed by the army.
"It is not true that they are sitting idle in a hangar somewhere," added Babiš, confirming the L-159's importance for national defense.
The Czech Republic does not plan to send its L-159s to Ukraine in the near future. However, on January 16, 2026, Czech President Petr Pavel announced the preparation of a new package of military aid for Ukraine, demonstrating the country's ongoing support for Kyiv amidst the ongoing conflict.
