Despite the common belief that the refrigerator is the main 'energy guzzler' in the kitchen, experts assert the opposite. The dishwasher consumes the most electricity. This is reported by The Sun citing data from Schneider Electric.

Energy consumption of the dishwasher

According to experts, the average energy consumption of a dishwasher is 1800 W, or 1.8 kilowatt-hours. In comparison, a standard combined refrigerator with a freezer uses between 300 and 800 W. Thus, a dishwasher can consume six times more energy than a refrigerator.

Encouraging more efficient behavioral habits

At the same time, experts emphasize that there are simple ways to reduce electricity costs. One of them is to run the dishwasher at night when a reduced tariff applies. This significantly reduces costs, as the demand for electricity is lower at night, and therefore the price.

It is important to use the delayed start function so that the appliance automatically begins operation at the right time.

Energy experts also recommend running the dishwasher less frequently, but fully loading it to reduce the number of wash cycles.

Although hand washing may seem like a cheaper alternative, modern dishwashers actually use much less water than washing under the tap. Air-drying the dishes without using an electric mode does indeed help save.

Dishwashers have proven to be real 'energy guzzlers', much more than many expected. However, there are simple tips that can help spend electricity more efficiently and ultimately reduce utility bills.
