In an exclusive interview with Glavcom, world athletics champion Oleh Doroshchuk shed light on what makes Ukraine’s high jump program so formidable. According to Doroshchuk, the country benefits from a deep-rooted tradition in the event and a wealth of exceptional coaches. He specifically highlighted the renowned athletics school in Berdychiv, which has produced numerous athletes and trainers—including his own mentor, Hennadii Zdittovetskyi.
Competitions and Achievements
Doroshchuk is set to kick off his summer competition season at the Diamond League event in Rome on June 1, 2026. In March 2023, he earned a medal at the World Athletics Indoor Championships, a major milestone in his career. During the final, he showcased impressive technique: a height of 2.26 meters eliminated half of the competitors from contention.
Together with his rivals Wu and Richards, Doroshchuk cleared the early bars without fault. The decisive moment came at 2.30 meters, which he conquered on his first attempt. Erick Portillo also matched that height, but at 2.33 meters, none of the athletes succeeded. Doroshchuk claimed the world title due to fewer overall attempts, underscoring his skill and preparation.
