World Champion Oleg Doroshchuk Reveals His Biggest Rival This Season

Олег Дорошчук розповів про найсильнішого суперника цього року.

Track and Field World Champion Oleg Doroshchuk

In an interview with the Ukrainian outlet Glavcom, world champion Oleg Doroshchuk stated that his toughest opponent on the track is himself. The athlete emphasized that defeating one's own limits can often be harder than beating any competitor.

“My main rival is myself. That’s why I always compete against myself first. And, of course, against the bar,” Doroshchuk said.

Upcoming Challenges and Plans

Doroshchuk’s first outdoor competition of the season is set for June 4, 2026, when he will compete at the Diamond League event in Rome. In March 2026, he earned his first career medal at the World Athletics Indoor Championships by clearing heights of 2.26m and 2.30m. At 2.26m, half of the field remained in contention. Only three athletes—Oleg Doroshchuk, Wu, and Richards—cleared the early bars without any faults.

The decisive height of 2.30m proved pivotal for Doroshchuk, as he cleared it on his first attempt. Athlete Eric Portillo also matched that height. The world title was decided at 2.33m, a bar that no competitor could clear. Doroshchuk won the championship due to fewer overall attempts, a testament to his high level of preparation and skill.

“Before my jump, I focus on my takeoff point. I don’t hypnotize the bar or anything like that. Honestly, I’m not superstitious. I have no rituals or omens,” Doroshchuk added, highlighting his professional approach to competition.

Oleg Doroshchuk continues to demonstrate elite athletic ability, which propelled him to success at the World Championships. His training and competition philosophy—concentrating on his own performance rather than on rivals—could serve as an inspiration for young athletes. Looking ahead, new challenges await, including the Diamond League stage in Rome, where he will have the chance to reaffirm his status as one of the world’s top track and field stars.

In addition to his impressive individual achievements, Oleg Doroshchuk's journey in athletics also reflects the camaraderie and spirit of the sport. Recently, another remarkable encounter occurred when a giant champion and a miniature champion came together for a unique photo opportunity, showcasing the diverse talents within the athletic community. This collaboration highlights the unity and inspiration found among athletes, emphasizing that success is not only measured by personal records but also by the relationships built along the way.
