He Took Down Five Enemy Fighters in His Final Engagement

On May 11, 2022, during the battle for Rubizhne, National Guardsman Viktor Yarmolenko was killed. While covering his unit's regrouping under heavy fire, he eliminated five enemy soldiers. He had volunteered for the National Guard of Ukraine at the start of the full-scale invasion.

Beyond his military service, Yarmolenko was a multiple-time Kyiv champion in Kyokushin karate, representing the Dojo sports club. Prior to his last fight, he took part in the liberation of Bucha and Irpin, where he demonstrated courage and determination.

During the battle for Rubizhne, despite suffering an initial wound, he refused to abandon his position. However, during a subsequent enemy assault, he sustained injuries that proved fatal.

Remembering the Hero

Viktor Yarmolenko's story is recorded in the book of remembrance of the Ministry of Internal Affairs system. Every day, we honor all those killed as a result of Russia's cynical invasion, keeping alive the memory of the heroism of those who gave their lives for Ukraine's freedom.

Honoring Viktor Yarmolenko's memory underscores the importance of each soldier's personal contribution to defending the country during wartime.

His bravery and valor have become a symbol of the Ukrainian people's struggle for independence and territorial integrity. This story also serves as a reminder of the need to recognize and support the families of fallen soldiers, who continue to live with the memory of their loved ones.

As we remember the heroism of Viktor Yarmolenko, it’s important to reflect on the sacrifices made by others in similar battles. The story of the anniversary of Yurii Tunov’s death in Bakhmut highlights the ongoing struggle faced by Ukrainian defenders. Each soldier's bravery contributes to the collective memory of those who have fought for freedom, reminding us of the profound impact of their sacrifices on the nation's history.
