Next week, new stricter rules for Ukrainians with temporary protection may be presented in the Czech Republic. The government states the need to 'align obligations' between refugees and local residents, as well as to strengthen control over certain areas of foreigners' presence. This is reported by Radio Prague International.

Czech Republic prepares new rules for refugees from Ukraine

According to Babiš, the Ministry of the Interior of the Czech Republic is already working on a project for new conditions of stay for individuals with temporary protection.

'I don’t know, maybe as early as next Monday they could be on the table,' said the Prime Minister after a government meeting.

He emphasized that Ukrainians who work and comply with rules are important for the Czech Republic, but at the same time mentioned cases of abuse of humanitarian and medical assistance.

Cars with Ukrainian license plates have again become a topic of discussion

Babiš also stated that the government wants to make the obligations of foreigners the same as those of Czech citizens.

As examples, he cited cars with Ukrainian registration. The Prime Minister claimed that such vehicles allegedly do not undergo mandatory technical inspections and do not require liability insurance for the first six months.

However, the latter statement is not true. This regime was only in effect at the beginning of the full-scale war and was abolished back in April 2023.

Similar statements were made by SPD leader Tomio Okamura. According to him, a draft law on stricter migration rules may be submitted to parliament as early as mid-May, with discussions starting in June.

In recent months, the topic of Ukrainian refugees and migration policy has increasingly become part of political discussions in the Czech Republic ahead of the new parliamentary debates.

For Ukrainians in the Czech Republic, this may mean the emergence of new requirements regarding residency, social assistance, or the use of cars with Ukrainian registration.
