What Russia Attacked Kyiv with on the Night of July 2, 2026: How Many Missiles and Drones Were Shot Down

On the night of July 2, Russia carried out one of the largest combined air attacks since the beginning of the year. The main target of the strike was Kyiv. For the shelling, the occupiers simultaneously used ballistic, cruise, and air-launched missiles, as well as nearly five hundred strike drones of various types. This was reported by the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Attack on Kyiv on July 2: What Russia Used for the Strike

According to the Air Force, the Russian army launched a total of 570 means of aerial attack against Ukraine, among which were 74 missiles and 496 drones.

The arsenal of the attack included:

  • 24 ballistic missiles "Iskander-M"/S-400;

  • 4 anti-ship missiles "Zircon";

  • 34 cruise missiles X-101;

  • 8 cruise missiles "Caliber";

  • 4 guided air-to-surface missiles X-59/69;

  • 496 strike UAVs of types Shahed, "Gerbera", "Italmas", "Banderolet", and imitation drones "Parody".

The Air Force noted that a feature of this strike was the simultaneous use of different types of weapons from several directions, as well as a large number of ballistic missiles.

How Many Missiles and Drones Were Shot Down by Air Defense on July 2

As of 09:00, the Ukrainian air defense had neutralized 524 air targets.

Air defense forces shot down or suppressed:

  • 4 ballistic missiles "Iskander-M"/S-400;

  • 32 cruise missiles X-101;

  • 8 cruise missiles "Caliber";

  • 4 guided air-to-surface missiles X-59/69;

  • 476 strike drones of various types.

At the same time, impacts from 25 ballistic missiles and 12 strike drones were recorded at 33 locations. In addition, the remnants of shot-down drones fell in another 18 places. Information regarding several missiles is being clarified.

The Air Force emphasized that the air attack continued even after the morning report was released, so Ukrainians were urged not to ignore the air raid signals.

 

It should be noted that partial traffic restrictions were introduced on one of the key transport arteries of the Pechersk district in Kyiv for almost a month.
