The price of espresso in Ukraine has risen to 41 hryvnias: what is driving coffee prices up

Ціни на каву в Україні знову зросли: експерти пояснюють причини підвищення вартості.

Price Increase of Espresso in Ukraine

In December 2025, the average price of a cup of espresso in Ukraine reached 41 hryvnias, which is 17% more compared to last year. The rising cost of coffee drinks has become a noticeable consequence of a number of economic factors that have directly affected the coffee market.

During the full-scale invasion, prices in cafes nearly doubled, which was a significant blow for consumers. In certain regions of Ukraine, the prices for espresso vary:

  • In Lviv and the region, the average price is 47 hryvnias, which is 19% more than last year.
  • In the Odessa region, espresso costs 45 hryvnias.
  • In the Khmelnitsky region, you can find the most budget-friendly coffee for 33 hryvnias, with an increase of 18%.
  • In the Zaporizhzhia and Kirovohrad regions, prices fluctuate around 35 hryvnias.
  • In Sumy region, espresso costs 36 hryvnias, with an increase of 26%.

Reasons for Price Increases

One of the reasons for the price increase is the rise in the cost of arabica, which first exceeded 4 dollars per pound in 2025. The composite ICO index in November 2025 recorded 330 cents per pound, indicating the aggravation of the situation in the global coffee market. An important component of this increase has been climatic factors:

  • Brazil lost around 6 million bags of arabica due to drought.
  • A devastating typhoon 'Kalmega' hit Vietnam in November 2025.

Moreover, the wholesale price of green beans for importers surged by 40–50%, which additionally affected the final price for consumers. The USDA warns about the persistence of a global coffee deficit for the fifth consecutive year, further intensifying pressure on the market and contributing to further price increases for coffee drinks in Ukraine.

Thus, the cost of espresso in Ukraine continues to rise, reflecting the complex situation in the global coffee market and the impact of economic conditions on domestic consumption.

The rise in coffee prices in Ukraine reflects a global deficit caused by climate change and economic factors. Consumers in Ukraine are facing high prices for coffee drinks, indicating that the market situation may remain challenging in the near future.
