Electricity Prices Hit Lowest Point Since December: Key Drivers Explained

Ціни на електрику досягли найнижчого рівня за останні місяці: розглядаємо основні фактори.

Electricity Market Sees Price Drop

On March 3, 2026, the weighted average price for electricity on Ukraine's day-ahead market fell to UAH 4,816 per MWh. This marks the lowest price point recorded since December 26, 2026, representing a significant 35% decrease compared to the previous day. This sharp decline highlights a major shift in the country's power market dynamics.

Price dynamics were further influenced by nearly 1 GW of Energoatom's nuclear capacity remaining unsold for the first decade of the month. During daytime hours, prices even dipped to their lowest levels in the past four months. It should be noted that price caps for short-term electricity market segments have been extended until March 31.

Factors Influencing Power Prices

According to analyst Serhiy Koval, while seasonal trends play a role, specific additional factors are currently at play. These include the unsold volumes from Energoatom and favorable sunny weather, which has boosted solar power generation.

A drop in electricity prices can signal a shift in market supply and demand, potentially having a substantial impact on Ukraine's entire energy sector.

The surplus of unsold nuclear capacity suggests an oversupply situation that may require market adjustments. Looking ahead, these factors could shape strategic decisions for energy companies and influence investment flows into Ukraine's renewable energy sector. This price volatility is a key consideration for both domestic consumers and international observers of the Ukrainian market.
