Increase in chicken egg prices in Ukraine
Prices for chicken eggs in Ukraine have reached 78 hryvnias per dozen and higher. The main reason for this increase is the rise in the cost of feed, which accounts for about 70% of the production cost of eggs. The price of feed, in particular, depends on the prices of corn, which is a staple for its production.
As of today, the stabilization of egg prices has occurred in line with the prices of this year's grain harvest. According to experts' forecasts, during the holiday period, the price of eggs is expected to range from 78 to 85 hryvnias per dozen. Experts express cautiously optimistic forecasts regarding egg prices during the pre-holiday period.
Factors influencing prices
According to experts, the costs of feed, rather than energy supply issues, are currently the main factor affecting the financial situation of producers. As noted by Natalia Saikivska,
“these costs significantly hit farmers' wallets.”
Oleg Pendzin added that as soon as figures regarding the cost of corn from the new harvest appeared, the dynamics of egg prices went up. Thus, the increase in chicken egg prices is primarily triggered by changes in the feed market, which is a crucial aspect for producers.
The increase in chicken egg prices reflects broader trends in Ukraine's agricultural sector, where fluctuations in commodity prices, such as corn, can significantly influence production costs. In light of the approaching holidays, consumer demand for eggs may remain high, which will also contribute to maintaining or even further increasing prices. In conditions of market instability, producers are forced to adapt to new economic realities to maintain their profitability.
