Potato prices in Ukraine have unexpectedly fallen, as reported by the publication 'Khvylia'. Now, major supermarkets are selling new potatoes for 21.61 hryvnias per kilogram, which is 7 hryvnias less than in July. Experts predict further price reduction of potatoes to 10 hryvnias per kilogram in October.
Andrii Marushchak, commercial director of 'Van Dyke Technics': 'This low price will not last long, only at the very start of the harvest season. After that, the price of potatoes may rise again.'
The specialist notes that the former price of 5 hryvnias per kilogram may not be attainable, but a price of 10 hryvnias per kilogram is possible in October, at the beginning of the harvest.
The Ukrainian Potato Association reported that some farms this year have doubled their potato production, which may lead to further price reductions due to oversupply in the market. According to 'Minfin', prices for new potatoes range from 16.02 to 27.20 hryvnias per kilogram in various supermarkets, with Metro selling it at 16.02 UAH/kg, while Auchan offers it at 27.20 UAH/kg.
Currency exchange rate analysis until the end of August
Moreover, analysts have made forecasts regarding the dollar and euro exchange rates until the end of August.
The drop in potato prices in Ukraine may be related to increased production of this vegetable at farms. If supply exceeds demand in the market, prices may continue to decrease. Currently, consumers can enjoy affordable and high-quality potatoes, but prices may change in the coming months.
