Fuel Prices Surge in Ukraine: Sharp Increases for Gasoline and Diesel

Ціни на паливо в Україні різко зросли: значне подорожчання бензину та дизельного пального.

Fuel Price Spike in Ukraine

A significant price increase for all types of fuel has been recorded in Ukraine between January 12 and 19, 2023. This surge is attributed to cold weather and the depletion of cheaper fuel reserves. The average wholesale price for A-95 gasoline rose by 70 kopiyok to 59.07 UAH/liter, while the average wholesale price for premium A-95+ gasoline increased by 68 kopiyok to 63.87 UAH/liter. The average wholesale price for diesel fuel also climbed, rising by 56 kopiyok to 58.87 UAH/liter.

Cost at the Pump

At major filling station networks, the price for standard gasoline and diesel has reached 62.99 UAH/liter. Premium A-95+ gasoline costs 65.99 UAH/liter, and the price for 'arctic' diesel fuel has risen to 70.99 UAH/liter. The average retail price for autogas (LPG) has also increased, reaching 38.19 UAH/liter. These price movements are occurring against the backdrop of Russia's ongoing war, which has severely disrupted Ukraine's economy and energy logistics.

"Ukraine's fuel reserves are sufficient for more than 20 days," stated Denys Shmyhal, the Prime Minister of Ukraine.

However, expert Serhiy Kuyun predicts that fuel prices in Ukraine could rise by another 2 hryvnias within the next two weeks. This situation is causing concern among drivers and consumers who have already felt the impact of rising fuel costs.

The increase in fuel prices may significantly affect the overall inflation rate, as transportation costs often influence the prices of other goods and services. Given the instability on global energy markets, Ukrainians should be prepared for potential further price fluctuations in the near future. While the government continues to assure that fuel supplies are adequate, the situation requires constant monitoring.
