Tomato Prices in Ukraine Drop 15% in Just One Week

Ціни на помідори в Україні знизилися на 15% всього за тиждень

Declining Prices for Tomatoes and Other Vegetables in Ukraine

According to analysts at Eastfruit, tomato prices in Ukraine have fallen sharply. This decline is driven by a surge in supply from summer greenhouses. Large greenhouse complexes are now shipping tomatoes at prices ranging from 90 to 130 UAH per kilogram—15% cheaper than at the end of last week. For context, during the same period last year, tomato prices were 37% lower than current levels.

The increased availability of produce has led to widespread price reductions across the country. Local greenhouse operators attempting to maintain earlier price levels have seen slower sales, forcing them to adjust prices downward, the Eastfruit project analysts note. They describe this drop in tomato prices as a typical seasonal trend.

Seasonal Shifts in the Fruit and Vegetable Market

Meanwhile, summer fruits like apricots, peaches, and nectarines have appeared on Kyiv markets, selling at half the price of strawberries. Additionally, the cost of fresh green peas in pods has dropped nearly threefold over the past week. These changes highlight a surge in the fresh produce market and the strong influence of seasonal factors on pricing.

The falling prices for tomatoes and other seasonal fruits and vegetables in Ukraine reflect shifts in the agricultural sector, particularly a rise in greenhouse output. This trend could boost consumer demand by making produce more affordable for households. However, producers face challenges as they must adjust prices in response to market conditions, which may squeeze their profit margins amid growing competition in the fresh food market.

As the market experiences a notable shift, the price of fresh peas in Kyiv has also seen a dramatic decline, dropping threefold in just one week. This trend further illustrates the impact of seasonal changes on produce prices, making fresh vegetables more accessible to consumers.
