CNN reveals the characteristics of the 'Oreshnik' missile: speed 13,000 km/h and a range of 3,000 miles

Досліджено особливості ракети Орешник: найвища швидкість досягає 13,000 км/год, а дальність враження складає 3,000 миль.

Characteristics of the 'Oreshnik' missile

CNN analyzed the characteristics of the 'Oreshnik' missile that Russia used to attack Lviv. This medium-range ballistic missile (MRBM) has significant combat capabilities; in particular, its maximum range can exceed 3,000 miles. The actual flight range of the missile is from 600 to 1,000 miles, which indicates its effectiveness in conducting long-range attacks.

The speed of the 'Oreshnik' missile reaches an impressive 8,000 miles per hour, which is equivalent to approximately 13,000 km/h. Such speed allows it to cover large distances in a short time, increasing the chances of successfully completing combat missions. Additionally, the missile can carry up to six warheads, each containing 4-6 charges. This further underscores its power and the threat it poses.

Development and Threat

The development of the RС-26 'Rubezh' missile, to which 'Oreshnik' belongs, began in 2008. This information indicates a prolonged effort by Russia to create modern ballistic systems that can be used in various military operations.

Attacks using 'Oreshnik' missiles highlight the growing threat to regional security, as these ballistic systems are capable of delivering significant strikes over long distances. In such conditions, the importance of strengthening Ukraine's defensive capabilities becomes even more relevant, considering the experience of using new Russian weaponry in the conflict. This may influence strategic decisions both in Ukraine and within the international community regarding support for Ukrainian defense and countering aggression from Russia.
