In the Lyuboml District Court of the Volyn Region, a verdict was delivered to a man who refused conscription due to religious beliefs. For this action, he was sentenced to two years of restriction of liberty.
The accused explained that his actions were motivated by his religious beliefs as a member of the religious group 'Jehovah's Witnesses', and therefore he believed he could not serve in the army due to ideological principles.
The court emphasized that Ukrainian law does not provide for exceptions for refusal to fulfill military duty due to religious beliefs. Such actions may lead to criminal liability, even if they are not related to combat actions.
The court found the man guilty of violating the Criminal Code of Ukraine and imposed a punishment of two years of restriction of liberty.
In other parts of Ukraine, cases of illegal transportation of draftees abroad during mobilization have also been identified. Illegal ways of taking citizens out of the country in case of conscription into the army remain a subject of attention for law enforcement.
