Ukraine has a surplus of electricity: why it cannot be transmitted

Попри надлишок електроенергії в Україні, її транспортування залишається складним завданням.

The situation with electricity differs in various parts of Ukraine. In some regions, there are no power outages due to a surplus of electricity, while in others, restrictions on electricity supply in response to shelling become necessary.

The head of NEC 'Ukrenergo' explained that damaged energy facilities in some regions hinder the transmission of electricity to affected areas, but existing networks do not always allow this to be done effectively. Therefore, restrictions on energy distribution are necessary to maintain the system's operation in the face of cyberattacks.

To relieve the electrical networks, restrictions have been imposed on certain sections, but in other areas such measures are not necessary, - he added.

The damage in the energy sector caused by the situation in the east of the country complicates the preparation of the energy system for winter. The timing and intensity of attacks by Russian armed groups complicate forecasting the operation of the system and potential power outages to prevent more serious problems.

The Deputy Minister of Energy emphasized that the regime in the electricity supply networks changes depending on the circumstances in the energy system and the activity of attacks on energy infrastructure.
