Chernobyl pensioners will receive 2595 hryvnias monthly: who is entitled to the payment

Пенсіонери з Чорнобиля отримають щомісячну виплату в розмірі 2595 гривень: хто має право на це фінансування.

Additional payment for pensioners affected by the Chernobyl disaster

Starting from January 1, 2026, pensioners living in areas affected by the Chernobyl disaster in Ukraine will begin to receive an additional payment of 2595 hryvnias per month. This payment is an important step in supporting those who suffered from the consequences of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant disaster.

The amount of the payment is 234 hryvnias higher than in 2025, when pensioners from the resettlement zones received 2361 hryvnias per month. The compensation is intended only for certain categories of citizens, particularly those who lived in contaminated areas until 1993. It is important to note that compensation will not be given to people who left the resettlement zones after the disaster and returned. Payments will also cease if pensioners move out of the resettlement zone or get a job in another region.

  • Approximately 105,200 pensioners are eligible for these payments.
  • This measure will provide important financial support for many people who have experienced the consequences of one of the largest environmental disasters in history.

Social justice for the affected

The introduction of this payment could mark an important step in restoring social justice for those who suffered as a result of the Chernobyl disaster. Despite the increase in the amount of the payment, it may still not cover all the needs of pensioners living in contaminated regions.

The decision to provide financial assistance also reflects the government's commitment to support vulnerable groups of the population who have special needs due to historical circumstances.
