Increase in Allowance for Pensioners in Ukraine
Starting January 1, 2026, the monthly allowance for pensioners living in resettlement zones affected by the Chernobyl disaster will increase in Ukraine. The allowance will be raised to 2,595 hryvnias per month, which is a significant increase compared to the current amount of 2,361 hryvnias.
This increase in payments is related to the expected rise in the minimum living wage for disabled individuals in 2026. Only those who have been recognized as victims of the Chernobyl disaster, as well as those who lived or worked in contaminated areas at the time of the disaster on April 26, 1986, or until January 1, 1993, and continue to live in these areas without working outside the resettlement zone will be eligible for this allowance.
Monitoring Payments and the Importance of Changes
It should be noted that the allowance is not provided for those who left contaminated areas and then returned. Currently, about 105,200 pensioners have confirmed their residence in contaminated zones. Payment monitoring will be conducted through state registries, which will ensure transparency and the timely receipt of funds.
Increasing allowances for pensioners who suffered from the Chernobyl disaster is an important step in supporting this vulnerable category of the population. Given the rise in the minimum living wage, these changes can improve the financial situation for pensioners who often face economic hardships.
Transparent monitoring of payments through state registries can also help prevent potential abuses in this area.
