Fatal Incidents on Railways in Kyiv Region
Several deadly accidents occurred on railways in Kyiv and the surrounding region during April. On April 26, in the village of Pustovity, part of the Myronivka territorial community in Obukhiv district, a 49-year-old man was struck and killed by a high-speed passenger train traveling from Cherkasy to Kyiv. The victim lost his balance while near the tracks and fell onto the rail as the train approached. He died instantly from his injuries. Investigators have launched a pre-trial inquiry under Article 276, Part 3 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Additionally, on April 13, a passenger train running from Kyiv to Chełm hit a 70-year-old woman on the stretch between Vasylkiv and Hlevakha stations after she stepped onto the tracks. She also died at the scene from her injuries. Earlier, in Kyiv's Sviatoshyn district, a person was found who had fallen onto the railway tracks. Rescue workers discovered the body of a man with no signs of life under one of the train cars. Law enforcement is still working to determine the cause of this tragedy.
Tragedies Involving Children
Furthermore, on April 1, a 12-year-old child died under the wheels of a suburban electric train in Kyiv's Sviatoshyn district. The boy was between the train cars while it was moving, fell onto the track, and was run over. His injuries proved fatal. Two other minors who were with the deceased were on the roof of a train car at the time and survived unharmed. Law enforcement officers are currently interviewing them.
These tragic events highlight the serious dangers of being near railway tracks and underscore the critical need for rail safety. Authorities continue their investigations to determine the causes of each incident and to implement measures aimed at preventing similar occurrences in the future. This issue is especially pressing given the rising number of railway-related incidents that pose risks to public safety.
