Drone Attack in Kherson
On the morning of August 19, a Russian FPV drone struck an ordinary city shuttle bus in Kherson, killing four passengers and leaving five others wounded. Kherson, a Ukrainian city near the front line, has faced repeated Russian attacks throughout the war. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported the strike on social media, stressing that the bus was civilian. All necessary emergency services were on the scene, working to establish the details.
Zelensky said this kind of shelling has become a grim routine for cities along the front line.
“This morning, the Russians hit an ordinary shuttle bus in Kherson with an FPV drone. Four people were killed and five more were wounded. All necessary services are on the scene and are establishing the details. What is absolutely clear is that the bus was civilian,”he wrote. He also voiced concern about what he called the Russian “safari” against Ukrainians, saying it has “long since gone beyond anything any normal person can imagine.”
Appeal to International Partners
In his address, Zelensky called on international partners to step up pressure on Russia and continue their support for Ukraine.
“Pressure on the aggressor is needed. Support for the defenders of life is needed. I thank everyone who continues to provide aid packages and impose new sanctions against the aggressor,”he added. Earlier, the outlet Khvylia reported that Zelensky had warned the Russian “safari” could extend beyond Ukraine.
The incident underscores a disturbing trend of increasing attacks on civilian targets in Ukraine against the backdrop of a prolonged war. The president’s appeal for international support reflects Ukraine’s need to strengthen its defenses and protect its civilian population. Such events are also likely to shape international policy and attitudes toward Russian aggression, something that has become increasingly apparent in recent developments.
The tragic incident in Kherson is part of a broader pattern of escalating violence against civilians in Ukraine. This follows recent reports where Zelenskyy outlined the impact of large-scale strikes on multiple Ukrainian cities, highlighting the urgent need for international intervention and support to protect innocent lives amidst ongoing hostilities.
