Ukrainian legislation provides only one type of mandatory insurance - vehicle liability insurance. The OSAGO policy is issued by the car owners. Thus, they insure their liability to other people on the roads.

Algorithm for the injured party
Ukrainian legislation prohibits participants in a traffic accident from leaving the scene or changing the position of the vehicle. The first thing the injured party needs to do is stay at their place.
Next, you need to follow these rules:
- Turn on the hazard lights and place a warning triangle to mark the vehicle on the road.
- Call the police and report the accident.
- Try to find witnesses of the accident (other drivers or pedestrians), write down their contacts if they do not have time to wait for the patrols.
- Call your insurance company.
When the police prepare the report, read it carefully. Do not sign it if anything is indicated incorrectly.
After that, you need to file a request to search for the driver who left the scene of the accident. Contact the police with the application, a copy of the report, and a dashcam, if available.
How to receive compensation?
In a classic situation, the compensation is paid by the insurance company of the culprit to the injured party. And if the culprit left, you need to contact the Motor Transport Insurance Bureau (MТСБУ). You need the department that protects victims after traffic accidents.
It is the fund that carries out compensation after you register the event. The application must be submitted within three working days from the day of the accident. This is done in person at the MТСБУ office. After that, they will contact you and assist with other questions.
Be sure to document the scene of the accident and do not leave until the police arrive. Also, timely submit an application to the MТСБУ fund for compensation payments.
