Initiatives of the Central Election Commission
The Central Election Commission (CEC) proposes to introduce a mandatory requirement for candidates for the presidency and for parliamentary seats to submit a statement on connections with the aggressor state. According to the new requirements, candidates must report the presence or absence of connections with the Russian Federation or other states that threaten the territorial integrity of Ukraine.
This initiative of the CEC may be enshrined at the legislative level. The Election Commission notes that failure to submit the statement will lead to the rejection of candidates' registration. Moreover, registration may be canceled if the court finds that the candidate concealed information.
Automated Information and Communication System
It is also worth noting that the CEC has adopted a resolution on the establishment of the Automated Information and Communication System 'All-Ukrainian Referendum'. This system aims to facilitate the process of holding referendums in Ukraine. The introduction of new requirements for candidates is another step towards ensuring transparency and security in the electoral process in the country.
This initiative reflects the growing attention to the security of national institutions amid aggression from Russia. The introduction of mandatory statements about connections with aggressor states could be an important tool for ensuring trust in candidates and increasing the transparency of the electoral process. Additionally, the creation of an automated system for referendums indicates a commitment to modernizing the mechanisms of direct democracy in Ukraine.
