On June 24, the Ukrainian parliament reviewed a draft law to raise the retirement age in the country. According to this document, the retirement age will increase from 60 to 61 years over 12 years, by one month each year.
Journalist Sergey Korobkin points out that the draft law provides for an increase in the retirement age for all citizens, as well as a decrease in the retirement age for women who have raised a child until the age of 6. Now they will be able to reduce their retirement age by six months for each child, but no more than three years from the established retirement age.
According to journalist Korobkin, these changes may raise the retirement age for many women, although some of them will be able to slightly reduce it.
The explanatory note to the draft law states that such changes are due to the demographic situation in the country. However, the journalist's remark is that this initiative may contradict Ukraine's international obligations, in particular, agreements with the International Monetary Fund.
The specified draft law aims to balance Ukraine's pension system and take into account the country's demographic realities. The final decision on this issue will be made after further discussions in the Verkhovna Rada.
