In a separate but related move, Yasamin Ansari has also urged the Cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove President Donald Trump from power. She stated,
"The 25th Amendment exists for a reason, and the Cabinet must use it. The safety of American troops, the lives of the Iranian people, and the stability of our global system depend on it,"— Yasamin Ansari. However, the prospects for both initiatives are considered low, as Republicans control both chambers of Congress. For an impeachment measure to succeed in the Senate, a two-thirds majority vote is required.
Pete Hegseth has faced mounting criticism following the resignations of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and Attorney General Pam Bondi. One month into the military campaign against Iran, Hegseth remains the primary public defender of the President's decisions. Recently, the Defense Secretary dismissed U.S. Army Chief of Staff Randy George. Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell confirmed the resignation. Randy George, 61, is a veteran of the Gulf War, Afghanistan, and Iran conflicts and previously served as an aide to former Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin. His term, appointed by Joe Biden, was scheduled to last until 2027.
