Air Force Day of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is celebrated annually on the first Sunday of August. In 2025, this holiday falls on August 3.

On this day, we honor the servicemen who serve in the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as the veterans of these units. Traditionally, in peacetime, demonstrations of aviation technology and performances by pilots take place.

History of the Holiday

The beginning of the Air Forces of Ukraine can be traced back to the times of the Ukrainian People's Republic (1917-1921), when aviation units began to be formed. During the Soviet period, Ukrainian pilots served in the Soviet Air Force, but after gaining independence in 1991, Ukraine began creating its own Air Forces. Special significance was given to August 2, 1997, when Air Force Day was established, which was initially celebrated on August 1. In 2004, a reorganization took place, merging the Air Force and Air Defense Forces into a unified Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
