The Navy Day of Ukraine was first celebrated in Sevastopol in 1997. This holiday marks the combat readiness of the Ukrainian Navy and was established in honor of the first exercises of the Ukrainian naval forces 'Sea-96'. Over time, the celebration of Navy Day changed its date, but now the holiday is celebrated on the first Sunday of July.
The headquarters of the Ukrainian Navy is located in Odessa due to the Russian occupation of Crimea.
