Danube Discovery Online Marathon
A week-long online marathon exploring the Danube River and nearby water bodies kicks off on June 18, organized by the International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River (ICPDR) with support from the Ministry of Economy and the EU's EUGRE project. Registration is open until 2:00 PM on June 17. Children aged 7 to 14 from Ukraine are eligible to participate, with a cap of 50 spots available.
The marathon will take place in a private Telegram group. New assignments will be posted daily at 8:00 AM, and participants must complete them within 28 hours—by 12:00 PM the following day. Tasks require using personal photos and videos. Progress will be tracked in a shared spreadsheet. Kids who successfully finish all 7 days will receive gifts and certificates.
Celebrating International Danube Day
This event marks International Danube Day, celebrated annually on June 29 and established by the International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River in 2004. Join us to uncover the fascinating world of aquatic life—from the Danube to a nearby pond or stream.
For children in Ukraine, this marathon offers a unique chance to learn about water ecosystems and their environmental importance. With limited enrollment, the initiative aims to deliver an interactive and personalized experience that sparks interest in ecology and conservation. Such programs help build environmental awareness among youth, which is vital for the planet's future.
