Additional Generators for Dnipropetrovsk Region

UNICEF will provide additional generators to Dnipropetrovsk Oblast to support its water and heating supply companies. This initiative aims to ensure a continuous supply of water and heat for the region's residents, even during attacks on the energy grid. The region's critical infrastructure includes 50 water utilities serving approximately 4.4 million people and 22 heating companies providing services to 1.86 million residents.

Supporting Infrastructure Under Threat

Over the past year, the WASH Cluster and UNICEF have already delivered 42 generators, 89 pumps, and over 522,000 meters of piping, significantly bolstering the region's infrastructure. A further 39 generators with a total capacity of 7 MW are expected to arrive in early 2026, which will improve the operations of utilities facing an elevated threat of attacks.

The Ministry for Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development continues to actively collaborate with international partners to secure additional equipment and strengthen community resilience. Konstantin Kovalenko noted that the region's utilities operate under constant threat but continue to provide water and heat. He emphasized that the current key needs are:

  • Generators
  • Infrastructure protection
  • Staff safety

Kovalenko also stated that, together with international partners, they are seeking opportunities to meet these requests promptly.

This support is crucial for a region that has endured sustained assaults on its energy infrastructure since the full-scale invasion began. A meeting to discuss these issues included representatives from the Ministry, the WASH Cluster Ukraine, the Association Ukrvodokanalekologiya, and UNICEF. The meeting was also attended by 17 water utilities, 9 heating companies, and donors, demonstrating a joint effort to ensure stable water and heating supply in the region.

UNICEF's initiative is vital for supporting Dnipropetrovsk Oblast's critical infrastructure. Providing generators and other resources will not only improve the delivery of essential services but also enhance the region's resilience to potential crises. Collaboration between state authorities and international partners plays a key role in ensuring the safety and comfort of the oblast's residents.
