U.S. Congressional Delegation Visits Ukraine
A bipartisan delegation from the U.S. Congress has arrived in Ukraine, featuring Republican senators Roger Wicker and Kevin Cramer, alongside Representatives Mark Veasey and Dan Crenshaw. During their visit, they engaged with Ukrainian officials, business leaders, and President Volodymyr Zelensky to discuss critical issues related to security and bilateral cooperation.
Roger Wicker, chair of the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee, emphasized the significance of this trip.
“We value this opportunity to gain vital insights and a deeper understanding of the situation. The determination of the Ukrainian people is unmistakable. I am profoundly impressed by the resilience of those standing against the unlawful actions of one individual – Putin,”he stated. Wicker also underscored that Putin is the aggressor, stressing the need for the international community to maintain this stance when addressing security concerns.
Ukraine Steps Up Diplomatic Efforts
Simultaneously, a Ukrainian delegation headed to the United States to intensify diplomatic initiatives aimed at advancing efforts to end the war. The Ukrainian team includes:
- David Arakhamia, head of the 'Servant of the People' parliamentary faction,
- Rustem Umerov, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council,
- Kyrylo Budanov, Chief of the Main Intelligence Directorate,
- Andriy Kyslytsya, Ukraine's Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
Their meetings in the U.S. are scheduled to begin on October 9, 2026, focusing on ramping up diplomatic engagement and preparing for a trilateral meeting among negotiation teams.
During the Kyiv meeting, held amid ongoing air raid alerts due to the threat of Shahed drones, President Zelensky reported recent Russian attacks damaging two schools and striking bridges, energy infrastructure, and other vital facilities in the capital.
“I am grateful to the Congressional delegation – Roger Wicker, Kevin Cramer, Mark Veasey, and Dan Crenshaw – for standing alongside our people during nearly continuous Russian assaults,”Zelensky emphasized.
Additionally, the President expressed hope for the implementation of the Lindsey Graham bill, highlighting the critical role of political leadership in cutting off financial resources fueling Russia’s war effort. “We also discussed other necessary steps, including expediting licensing for missile production related to the Patriot system. Ukraine is prepared not only to produce ballistic missile interceptors for itself but also to enhance joint manufacturing efforts with the U.S. and its allies,” he added.
