Initiative Targets High-Rise Residents
Dmytro Ivanov, co-founder of the volunteer movement 'Dobrobat', has presented a solution for residents of high-rise buildings during power outages: powerful mobile energy units. The movement is actively seeking resources to purchase three such units, each with a capacity of 450 kW. This initiative is designed to alleviate the difficulties faced by apartment dwellers when the electricity is cut. The situation in Ukraine has led to frequent and prolonged blackouts, making such backup power solutions critical for urban survival.
The discussion highlighted conditions in Kyiv's residential districts, particularly in Troieshchyna, where power cuts in 16- to 22-story buildings cause elevators to stop. Dmytro Ivanov confirmed that a strategy for 'connection schedules' to these mobile generators is already being developed. This system will provide residents with electricity for a set period, which is especially vital for those living on upper floors.
Capabilities of the Mobile Units
The unit's capacity is sufficient to run elevators for several hours, support heating systems, and power the pumps needed to supply water to upper floors.
"I'm not just thinking about it—we are already looking for resources. These are mobile units, mobile boiler rooms. You drive up, connect, and start the elevator and heating," stated Dmytro Ivanov.
A single mobile unit can circulate between buildings in a district on a set timetable, which will help reduce the impact of blackouts on residents' daily lives.
This 'Dobrobat' initiative is a significant step in supporting high-rise residents who face considerable hardship due to frequent power cuts. Deploying mobile energy units could substantially improve living conditions during blackouts, particularly for people with disabilities, the elderly, and families with young children. Implementing this project will require not only funding but also active community involvement in sourcing resources and deploying the new technology.
