Daughter of a Fallen Defender Found Dead After Kyiv Missile Strike

Дочка загиблого захисника виявилася жертвою ракетної атаки в Києві.

Tragedy in Kyiv

On the night of May 14, a Russian missile and drone attack struck nine districts of Kyiv, killing 21 people. Among the victims was Liubava, the 11-year-old daughter of fallen soldier Yevhen Yakovlev, known by the call sign 'Ryzhyi'. Born in 2013, she was discovered dead in a destroyed building in the Darnytskyi district. This devastating event highlights the ongoing toll on civilians in Ukraine's capital.

Yevhen Yakovlev, who had been a teacher at Lyceum No. 88, joined the territorial defense forces at the start of the full-scale invasion. He served in rifle units in Donetsk and Luhansk regions and died while carrying out a combat mission on April 7. A memorial plaque has been placed on the facade of the school where he once studied. At the time of reporting, the fate of Yevhen's older daughter remained unknown, and search-and-rescue operations at the tragedy site were still ongoing.

Details of the Attack's Aftermath

The attack injured 47 people, with more than ten others listed as missing. In the Darnytskyi district, a missile partially destroyed a nine-story residential building. Kyiv declared May 15 a day of mourning: flags were lowered on all municipal buildings, and entertainment events were banned. Six canine teams and 177 rescue workers with heavy equipment were deployed to search for survivors.

It is worth noting that three children were among the dead. The number of casualties from the Kyiv strike continues to rise as rescue efforts progress.

This tragedy underscores the enduring impact of military hostilities on Ukraine's civilian population, particularly children and families who have lost loved ones. The declaration of a mourning day in Kyiv reflects the deep pain and grief that has engulfed the city in the wake of these events. Search-and-rescue operations are ongoing, with hopes of finding anyone still trapped under the rubble and honoring the victims of this devastating attack.

The recent missile strikes in Kyiv have not only claimed the life of Liubava but also resulted in multiple casualties, including children. This tragic pattern of violence against civilians raises significant concerns, as seen in another recent incident where eight lives were lost, including a 12-year-old. Such events highlight the urgent need for awareness and action regarding the ongoing crisis affecting families throughout Ukraine.
