Drone Assault Targets Kuibyshev Oil Refinery
In the early hours of September 22, drones launched an attack on the Kuibyshev oil refinery located in Samara, igniting a fire at the primary oil distillation unit AVT-5. The blaze persisted until morning, engulfing the industrial area in thick smoke. This refinery is part of Rosneft’s Samara refining hub, which also includes facilities in Novokuibyshevsk and Syzran. Together, these plants have a combined processing capacity of approximately 7 million tons of crude oil annually.
It is important to note that just a day earlier, the Ukrainian General Staff reported that over 45% of Russia's oil refining capacity was disabled following strikes on the Moscow refinery. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the damage to the Kuibyshev refinery in June, despite it being more than 900 kilometers from the frontline. Additionally, the Saratov refinery has been targeted twice by drone attacks within the past week.
