Overnight Drone Strikes Hit Saint Petersburg and Multiple Russian Oil Refineries on June 6

Вночі 6 червня по російських об'єктах нафтопереробки та Санкт-Петербургу завдали удару безпілотники.

Drone Attacks Across Russian Territory

In the early hours of June 6, unmanned aerial vehicles struck several targets inside the Russian Federation, including:

  • Saint Petersburg
  • Leningrad Oblast
  • An oil depot in Ust-Labinsk, Krasnodar Krai
  • The Antipinsky Refinery in Tyumen
  • The port of Mariupol
  • An oil storage facility in Zugres, Donetsk Oblast

Russia's Defense Ministry reported that 376 drones were intercepted.

Specific Targets Hit

In Saint Petersburg and Leningrad Oblast, multiple sites came under attack. Notably, a fire broke out at the 15th Naval Ammunition Arsenal near Bolshaya Izhora, located roughly 870 kilometers from Ukraine's border. Other targets included:

  • The Kronstadt Naval Plant
  • The Marine Thermal Engineering Research Institute in Lomonosovsky District
  • An oil depot in Petergof
  • The Naval Cadet Corps in Kronstadt

In Krasnodar Krai, drones successfully struck an oil depot in Ust-Labinsk, approximately 400 kilometers from the front line. The resulting fire covered an area of about 5,000 square meters. The facility stored AI-92 and AI-95 gasoline as well as diesel fuel.

By morning, a fire was reported at the Antipinsky Refinery in Tyumen, one of Russia's largest privately-owned refineries, with an annual design capacity of 9 million tons of crude oil. The distance from the Russian-Ukrainian border to Tyumen is roughly 2,000 kilometers.

Additional strikes targeted the port of Mariupol in occupied territory, while an oil depot caught fire in the city of Zugres, Donetsk Oblast. Explosions and a blaze were also reported in Uzlova, Tula Oblast. Local official Alexander Beglov urged residents to stay indoors.

These attacks demonstrate the growing role of drone warfare in the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, as well as the ability to strike military assets deep inside enemy territory. — Russian Defense Ministry

The significant distances between the front line and the targeted sites may reflect new tactical approaches being employed. Such events could have serious implications for security within Russia and potentially alter the trajectory of military operations in the region.

These recent drone strikes highlight a significant escalation in military operations, particularly against key infrastructure in Russian territories.
