Rescue Operation at the Border
In the Sumy region, a border community subjected to daily shelling has seen a joint evacuation operation by the State Emergency Service (DSNS) and the National Police. The DSNS's specialized 'Phoenix' unit operated in the Znov-Novhorodska community, where the security situation remains critical due to persistent Russian artillery fire. This region has faced repeated attacks since the full-scale invasion began in 2022, making such evacuations a grim necessity.
The police special unit 'White Angel' also participated in the mission. The operation targeted two addresses: rescuers used an armored personnel carrier to evacuate two women, while police officers extracted a 40-year-old woman along with her children, aged 3 and 9. All evacuees were transported to a secure location where they received necessary aid.
The Critical Need for Evacuations
Evacuating civilians from frontline areas is a vital component of protecting the population during an armed conflict. The constant threat from shelling endangers the lives and health of civilians, making such operations crucial for mitigating risks and providing support to those in immediate danger.
The coordinated actions of the DSNS and police highlight the essential collaboration between different emergency services, which is critically important under the current wartime conditions in Ukraine.
