An Appeal for International Assistance

In a column for the British newspaper The Times, DTEK CEO Maxim Timchenko has urgently called on international partners to bolster the protection of Ukraine's energy infrastructure, including power plants, and to increase the supply of generators. Timchenko stressed the immediate need for more air defense systems in Ukraine, as current weaponry is insufficient to counter large-scale drone swarm attacks.

Challenges and Required Solutions

DTEK's energy specialists are also searching European nations for used transformers and other equipment to aid in the restoration of the power grid. Timchenko discussed the security of Ukraine's energy system at the Munich Security Conference, reiterating the critical importance of international support. The ongoing war has made Ukraine's energy grid a primary target, highlighting its strategic vulnerability.

'Our most urgent request to our allies is to help protect the parts of the energy system that are still operational by immediately ramping up the supply of air defense assets to Ukraine. Today, we have the weapon systems, but we lack interceptor missiles,' Maxim Timchenko

He further emphasized the necessity of rapidly supplying large mobile generators that can be connected to powerless apartment buildings to restore critical systems and sustain life. 'These measures are essential for Ukraine to withstand the energy war against Russia,' he added. This call to action underscores the dire situation facing Ukraine's energy infrastructure, which is suffering severe and sustained attacks. In the face of escalating threats, international support is now pivotal for preserving the power grid and ensuring the population's survival. The timely provision of modern air defense systems and generators could significantly impact Ukraine's ability to endure the relentless pressure from its adversary.
