Deadly Crash Occurs Near Khrolyn Village
A severe traffic accident on February 23 near Khrolyn village in the Shepetivka district resulted in two fatalities and five injuries. The collision occurred around 12:00 on the 'Shepetivka – Polonne – Berdychiv' route, a regional highway. Road safety remains a significant challenge across Ukraine, with many accidents attributed to high traffic volumes and infrastructure issues.
Two vehicles were involved: a Hyundai, driven by a 63-year-old resident of Novoselytsia village, and a VAZ 21063. The 73-year-old driver of the VAZ, a resident of Khrolyn village, died at the scene. A 46-year-old female passenger from the VAZ later succumbed to her injuries while receiving medical aid at the Shepetivka Multidisciplinary Hospital. Two other men, aged 32 and 52, who were also passengers in the VAZ, were among the injured.
The Hyundai driver sustained injuries and is currently under guard in the hospital. Other injured parties include a 76-year-old woman and a 52-year-old man who were passengers in the Hyundai. A criminal investigation has been initiated under Part 3 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which carries a potential penalty of up to 10 years imprisonment. The Hyundai driver has been detained as the investigation continues.
