At the Zaporizhzhia Regional Clinical Hospital, two repeated kidney transplants from one donor took place, giving two patients a chance for a quality life. This became possible thanks to the decision of the deceased woman's family about posthumous donation.
One of the organ recipients, Ivan, 26 years old, had already undergone a transplant before, but due to a stroke, he needed a repeat operation. Another patient, Vitaliy, 48 years old, lived for many years on dialysis due to serious kidney issues, so a repeat transplant was also necessary for him.
“Recently in Zaporizhzhia, a medical council confirmed the brain death of a woman who had a stroke. Although the doctors did everything possible, the consequences of the hemorrhage were irreversible: unfortunately, they could not save the woman,”
The medical team of the hospital successfully performed both transplants. Currently, the patients have undergone rehabilitation and plan to return to a full life without the need for dialysis. Great gratitude is expressed to the donor's family, who made the important and lifesaving decision about posthumous donation during a difficult time.
Together with the organ donor, the woman gave the opportunity for two people to return to a healthy life, and for the deceased's family, she became a living sign of immense mercy and important support in the hardest hour of loss.
