Three cars from Jeremy Clarkson's collection that appeared in The Grand Tour will be auctioned on November 14. Among them is the Lancia Montecarlo Spider from the show's final episode. The presenter has garnered attention for other automotive stories in the past. The sale is reported by Iconic Auctioneers.
What Cars Will Clarkson Auction
At the Iconic Sale auction, taking place during the NEC Classic Motor Show, three cars will be offered:
-
1982 Lancia Montecarlo Spider;
-
1983 Alfa Romeo GTV6;
-
1978 Lincoln Continental Mark V.
All cars will be sold without reserve, meaning there is no predetermined minimum amount below which the bidding cannot end.
The Lancia Montecarlo became the last car Clarkson drove in the final episode of The Grand Tour - One for the Road. For filming, the car was modified: rear lights and four exhaust pipes in the style of Ferrari 308 were added, as well as elements from the Lancia Delta Integrale. After filming, the host purchased it for his personal collection.
Alfa Romeo and Lincoln from Other Episodes of the Show
The 1983 Alfa Romeo GTV6 appeared in the episode Well Aged Scotch, where Clarkson, along with Richard Hammond and James May, traveled the North Coast 500 route in Scotland. According to the auction house, the car has covered 28,315 miles. The episode is remembered for its characteristic gear shifting and a broken driveshaft.
The 1978 Lincoln Continental Mark V was featured in the special episode Lochdown, filmed in Scotland during the pandemic. The big car, equipped with a 6.6-liter engine, was fitted with a nitrous oxide system. A bagpipe still rests in the trunk, and a Cartier watch remains inside, which caught Clarkson's attention during filming. Similar interest from collectors is drawn to cars with motorsport history.
«I rarely have the opportunity to drive these special and quite famous cars, so it’s probably better if they go to someone who can enjoy them,» Clarkson said.
Why the presenter decided to sell the cars will be explained in the upcoming season of Clarkson’s Farm. For now, it remains his personal matter. The auction house regards these cars as part of automotive television history; another example of a famous car associated with a celebrity is the Rolls-Royce of Freddie Mercury, purchased by Andriy Danylko.
