Jesse Lingard's Move to Corinthians

Attacking midfielder Jesse Lingard has joined Brazilian club Corinthians as a free agent. His contract with the São Paulo-based giant runs until the end of 2026, with an option for a further season. The move became possible after Lingard's status as a free agent took effect on January 1, 2023, following his departure from Nottingham Forest.

Lingard's Career and Achievements

Born in Warrington, Lingard began his career in the Manchester United academy, which he joined at the age of seven. His senior debut came on loan at Leicester City in the Championship during the 2012/13 season, before his first-team debut for Manchester United in the 2014/15 campaign. For the England national team, Lingard made 32 appearances, scoring 2 goals.

In 2023, he played for South Korean side FC Seoul, featuring in 41 matches, scoring 13 goals, and providing 7 assists. The transfer to Corinthians was completed without a fee, and Lingard now partners with former Manchester United player Memphis Depay.

Corinthians began their 2026 season in the Campeonato Paulista state championship. In the Paulista semi-final, the team lost 0:1 to Novorizontino. In the Brazilian Série A, Corinthians has already played 4 rounds, securing 2 wins and 1 draw. Notable victories include matches against:

  • Red Bull Bragantino (2:0)
  • Athletico Paranaense (1:0)

In April, Corinthians will begin their campaign in the group stage of the Copa Libertadores, South America's premier club competition.

This transfer highlights a growing trend of Brazilian clubs attracting experienced talent from Europe, which could raise the level of both the domestic league and continental tournaments. With his international experience, Lingard could become a key player for Corinthians in their ambitions on both the domestic and international stage.
