Oleksiy Yershov, a Ukrainian judoka, showed an impressive result at the tournament in Zagreb, Croatia, becoming the vice-champion in the weight category up to 100 kg. This award was his first at the Grand Prix stage, which is something! He was lucky to reach the final, where he lost to a Spaniard, but still won silver.
Moreover, Ukraine displayed true sports spirit at the European Youth Olympic Festival, winning 5 gold, 8 silver, and 10 bronze medals, which brought us 10th place in the overall ranking. Judo turned out to be the most popular sport, with six medals from Ukrainian athletes.
At the World Summer Universiade, the Ukrainian team also captured the hearts of spectators, winning bronze in the 20 km race walking. In total, our athletes secured 12 medals, which ensured us 14th place in the medal standings. Keep it up, Ukraine!
