Yegor Yarmolyuk's Milestone Achievement

Brentford midfielder Yegor Yarmolyuk has reached a significant career milestone by making his 82nd appearance in the English Premier League. This feat moves him past Ukrainian football legend Oleh Luzhnyi into third place on the all-time list of Ukrainian players in the EPL. Luzhnyi, who played 81 Premier League matches for Arsenal and Wolverhampton Wanderers, is also renowned for his lengthy tenure at Dynamo Kyiv, where he spent ten and a half years and played approximately 350 games.

Yarmolyuk's Career and the National Team's Quest

A product of the Dnipro-1 academy, Yarmolyuk made his Premier League debut in October 2023 and scored his first goal in January 2026. His 82 appearances now place him behind only two other Ukrainians: leader Oleksandr Zinchenko with 150 matches and Vitalii Mykolenko in second with 130. The growing number of Ukrainians in England's top flight highlights the increasing talent pipeline from the country.

Beyond Yarmolyuk's club success, the Ukrainian national team continues its push to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. They are set to face Sweden in a crucial playoff semi-final on March 26, 2026. A victory would see them advance to a final against the winner of the Poland vs. Albania match for a spot at the global tournament.

  • Ukraine's most recent qualifying match was a 2-0 victory over Iceland.
  • The goals in that match were scored by Zubkov in the 83rd minute and Hutsuliak in stoppage time (90+3').

Yarmolyuk's rising status in one of the world's toughest leagues and the national team's determined campaign underscore a period of notable progress for Ukrainian football. These parallel successes are a source of significant pride and inspiration for the sport's development in the nation.
