The State of Ukraine's Tariff Policy
Oleh Popenko, an expert in housing and communal services, expressed serious concern during a live broadcast on his YouTube channel 'Oleh Popenko PRO' about the critical lack of systematic support and clear tariff policies for Ukrainian businesses. He stated that from a business perspective, Ukraine completely lacks any coherent tariff policy, which creates significant additional hurdles for entrepreneurs. This regulatory uncertainty is a major obstacle for companies trying to plan and grow in a challenging economic environment.
Contrast with European Practices
During the broadcast, Oleh Popenko contrasted the situation in Ukraine with the experience of European states, where local municipalities actively implement grant programs and benefits to support businesses. The expert pointed out that similar initiatives from regional budgets are currently absent in Ukraine, particularly regarding tax reductions for producers of milk or meat.
'This is precisely the issue—who will regulate, and why isn't the state doing it?' emphasized Oleh Popenko.
He also noted that 'there should be specific assistance for small and medium-sized businesses so they are not left standing in line with a begging bowl, but instead have genuine self-employment.' In this way, the expert called for the implementation of effective business support mechanisms, which he sees as essential for its development in Ukraine.
The absence of a clear tariff policy and systematic business support could negatively impact the country's economic development. Compared to European nations, where businesses receive substantial state backing, Ukrainian entrepreneurs are left without the necessary tools for growth. Given the current challenges, it is crucial for the government to consider introducing new support programs that would help enterprises adapt to changing market conditions and ensure their competitiveness.
In light of the ongoing challenges faced by Ukrainian businesses, it is important to explore the various initiatives available for support. For instance, the recent announcement from Ukraine's Ministry of Economy highlights over 120 programs aimed at assisting local enterprises. Understanding these opportunities can provide crucial insights into how businesses can navigate the current economic landscape more effectively.
