In the Round of 16, the Ukrainian tennis player, who is ranked ninth in the world, defeated the world’s 13th player, Belinda Bencic from Switzerland. The match lasted two hours and concluded in three sets – 4:6, 6:1, 6:3.
This was the sixth head-to-head encounter between the rivals, and Svitolina secured her fourth victory. Both tennis players are mothers: Elina gave birth to her daughter Skye in October 2022, while Belinda Bencic became a mother of a daughter Bella in April 2024.
WTA 1000 Quarterfinal: Svitolina's next opponent
In the quarterfinals of the tournament in Dubai, Svitolina will play against Antonija Ruzic from Croatia, who is ranked 67th in the WTA ranking. In the previous round, the Croatian player defeated Yelena Rybakina after the representative of Kazakhstan withdrew from the match in the third set due to illness.
For Svitolina, this is already the 24th quarterfinal at WTA 1000 tournaments. In Dubai, she has participated eleven times and reached the quarterfinal stage for the fourth time.
The tournament in Dubai is part of a series of prestigious hard court competitions and is one of the key stages in preparation for the spring part of the season.
