Elina Svitolina fought her way to the 1/8 finals of the WTA 1000 tournament in Dubai after Spanish player Paula Badosa refused to continue the match in the second round. This is reported by Setanta Sports.
The match for Ukraine's top-ranked player started off difficult. At the beginning of the meeting, Svitolina was trailing 1:4 and allowed her opponent to earn two break points. However, Badosa did not capitalize on her chances, while the Ukrainian seized the initiative and won the set 6:4.
After the set ended, the Spanish tennis player consulted a doctor and later decided not to continue the game due to injury. Thus, Svitolina advanced to the next round without needing to finish the match.
