Ukraine's Energy Crisis
Ukraine is facing a severe energy crisis, with Russian attacks and freezing temperatures inflicting massive economic damage. The head of the parliamentary committee on finance, tax, and customs policy, Danylo Hetmantsev, has estimated the country's losses at tens of billions of hryvnias. He stated that the critical state of the power grid due to Russian strikes is forcing Ukraine to implement stricter schedules of electricity restrictions. This crisis is a direct consequence of Russia's ongoing war, which has targeted civilian infrastructure since October 2022.

According to Hetmantsev, the situation is extremely difficult. He noted,

The scale of the attacks, compounded by the cold weather, is leading to enormous direct and indirect losses, which could reach tens of billions of hryvnias.
Furthermore, due to the critical situation, Kyiv will soon return to scheduled blackouts, further complicating life for residents of the capital and other regions. These power supply restrictions are deemed necessary to ensure the stability of the energy system as the country faces serious challenges. It is currently unknown how quickly recovery will occur or what the long-term economic consequences of these attacks will be.
