The European Parliament is considering proposals for abandoning Russian gas

The European Parliament is exploring the possibility of abandoning Russian gas sooner than planned. According to Reuters, this initiative aims to halt the import of Russian gas by January 2027.

Documents indicate that European lawmakers have proposed shortening the timeline by one year, which could provide additional impetus for negotiations. Although EU member states might not support such a decision, it could play a significant role in future discussions.

'In particular, it is proposed to require governments to impose sanctions on companies that violate the ban, including the revocation of licenses to trade in energy resources,' a source told the publication.

Interestingly, the largest oil and gas field in the Baltic Sea was recently opened in Poland, which may influence the European Union's decisions on energy supply sources.

The European Parliament is actively considering proposals to abandon Russian gas in favor of other energy sources, which could have important implications for the EU's energy policy in the future.
